Demand-Side Management (DSM) plays a critical role in modern energy systems by effectively managing energy consumption to optimize grid operations, reduce costs, and mitigate environmental impact.

This training course provides participants with a comprehensive introduction to DSM, covering its principles, practices, and future prospects. Through a combination of background, case studies, and group discussions, participants will gain insight into the key strategies, technologies, policies, and real-world applications of DSM, as well as emerging trends in the field.

  • Understanding the Role of Policies and Incentives. Briefly discuss the role of DSM objectives, policies, and regulations in shaping DSM practices.
  • Real-World Application of DSM. Select case studies that illustrate the practical application and benefits of DSM.
  • Future Perspectives in DSM. A brief overview of emerging trends in DSM and a brief exploration of the wide range of employment opportunities the field offers.

      Manager, Intelligence & Analytics - Planning, Conservation & Resource Adequacy, IESO

      Cory Cook has spent the past 15 years working and learning in the demand side management industry. Cory is currently the Manager of DSM Intelligence and Analytics at the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) in Ontario, but has also held roles in the design, delivery, and evaluation of DSM programs at the IESO, ICF Consulting, and Toronto Hydro. Cory earned an advanced diploma in Sustainable Energy & Building Technology, as well as an undergraduate degree in Management Studies from Humber College, and is working toward the completion of an MBA with a concentration in Business Analytics from Carleton University.
