Utilities design programs with a specific outcome in mind. Typical desired outcomes are hitting savings goals and spending targets or transforming the market. Sometimes utilities design programs to address needs in specific segments like low-income, small business, or agriculture. Seldom do programs measure success by equity or inclusiveness because it is difficult to measure and then evaluate. In this course, attendees will define what equity means to them and their organizations, understand why upfront data collection is critical to planning equitable programs and conducting evaluations, and understand how to apply an equity lens to program design or redesign.
