Elexity
An energy economist and serial entrepreneur with more than 30 years of experience in consulting and
technology development in energy markets, John has worked in energy efficiency, demand response, and
renewables for most of his career. As founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Elexity (formerly Extensible
Energy), he leads a stellar team of cleantech experts developing software solutions for building controls,
solar, storage, and load flexibility applications. Prior to Elexity, John founded Energy Interactive, a pioneering
software company in online energy applications, including some of the first customer engagement and
demand response software for nonresidential electricity customers. He served as Director of Retail Software
at ABB after ABB acquired Energy Interactive. He has a B.A. in economics from Reed College and an M.A. also
in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Emily has nearly a decade of experience in the energy sector, with a focus on developing and launching
energy programs in partnership with utilities. In her role at Sunnova, she works on developing new
partnerships and business opportunities to exp

Serj Berelson is the Senior Manager of Policy, West for Mainspring. In over 13 years building his career in
the energy industry, in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, Serj has worked on a range of key energy
issues related to distributed energy resources, including distributed generation, energy efficiency and
demand response with a focus on equity programs (e.g. limited-income), and energy storage. During this time
he developed a knack for ensuring innovative energy technologies gain full value in regulated markets.
Most recently, Serj spent more than two years as the California Efficiency + Demand Management Council’s
Director of Policy & Strategy, leading regulatory and legislative advocacy efforts for energy efficiency and
other distributed energy resources in regulatory and legislative arenas. Prior to that, Serj was the Manager of
Energy Regulatory Affairs in the Western United States for Google Nest’s thermostat and Google Home products, with a particular
focus on limited-income programs. Before that he worked on residential energy storage policy across North America as the
Manager, Regulatory Strategy for Sunverge. He spent five years at Opower, leading the expansion of the company’s Home Energy
Reports into low-income programs throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as developing policy around novel behavioral demand
response programs in California
